New Year’s Resolutions: A Blend of Goals, Fun, and Achievable Practices

What are your intentions for 2025?

As we step into a new year, many of us embrace the tradition of crafting resolutions. While goal-based resolutions—like improving finances or hitting a fitness milestone—are important, I’ve realized the value of integrating fun resolutions into the mix. After all, life isn’t just about striving; it’s also about savoring.

When we set resolutions, it’s easy to focus solely on outcomes: losing weight, landing a promotion, or saving a certain amount of money. But what about resolutions that simply bring joy? What about those that reconnect us with our inner child and spark our creativity? These, too, are essential because they enrich our lives in ways that go beyond checklists. Fun resolutions remind us to play, to explore, and to be curious. This year, my words of the year are play and curiosity, and I’m leaning into them fully.

I believe resolutions should also be grounded in achievable habits and practices. Instead of overwhelming ourselves with unrealistic expectations, we can break our goals into smaller, joyful steps. These mini-habits build momentum and, over time, create meaningful change without the pressure of perfection.

Here are my personal New Year’s goals for January, designed to foster creativity, connection, and a sense of wonder:

January Goals

  • Sign up for an art or pottery class: Reconnecting with tactile creativity is a fun way to engage my inner child.

  • Paint + listen to jazz one night this month: Combining art and music is my recipe for soulful relaxation.

  • Participate in Gabby Bernstein’s 21-day manifestation challenge: A structured way to cultivate intention and positivity.

  • Dry January: A reset for my body and mind, reducing alcohol to focus on wellness.

  • Run 3-4x a week for marathon training: Keeping my sights on my big 2025 marathon goal while staying active.

  • Create a vision board for 2025 goals: A creative, visual way to manifest the year ahead.

  • One day with no screens: A digital detox to reconnect with the world around me.

  • Meal prep on Sundays: A practical habit to nourish my body and save time.

  • Try a new recipe each week: Adding variety and creativity to my meals.

  • Morning pages: Journaling to start the day with reflection and clarity.

  • One ski day and one hike: Time in nature to embrace adventure and stay active.

These resolutions aren’t just tasks on a to-do list; they’re invitations to enjoy the process, nurture curiosity, and stay playful. Whether it’s exploring a pottery wheel, finding new trails, or experimenting in the kitchen, these small joys build a life that feels balanced and fulfilling.

So as you craft your own resolutions, I encourage you to ask: Where can I add more fun? How can I approach my goals with a spirit of play and curiosity? Let’s create a year that’s not only productive but also rich with experiences that make us smile. Here’s to a 2025 filled with growth, creativity, and joy!

So much love,

Claire
